The Paul Auster Research Library Visiting Fellowship
2026
University of Copenhagen
The Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies calls for applications for the one-month annual Paul Auster Research Library Visiting Fellowship, University of Copenhagen, 2025 or 2026.
The Paul Auster Research Library currently holds a collection of Paul Auster’s manuscripts kindly provided by his publishers in electronic form in several languages, i.e. English, German, Danish, Swedish, Greek etc. Auster has also kindly donated part of his private library to The Paul Auster Library, and we are now home to 300 books from Auster’s shelves: Beckett, Hawthorne, Crane, a large selection of French and American poets, books on baseball, film, and modern thought.
We invite projects that will make use of the Auster Collection in studies of Auster’s verbal and/or visual work either in isolation or in broader literary and/or cinematic contexts. Applications must contain a short project description, CV and plan for the one-month stay in Copenhagen clearly stating when the applicant would like to take residence. The Auster Visiting Fellow will be expected to give a lecture or seminar on their work during their stay at Copenhagen University (preferably during the academic term).
The Fellowship offers a fee of DKK 20,000 to cover the Visiting Fellow’s expenses for a one-month stay in Copenhagen during either 2025 or 2026. Travel expenses to and from Copenhagen will also be covered (EU) or partly covered.
The Visiting Fellow will be affiliated with The Department of English, German and Romance Studies for the duration of their stay. Office space, library access and internet will be provided.
Deadline for applications is 15 May 2025 submitted to Mette Seistrup
